David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash, along with their on-again off-again colleague Neil Young not only comprised one of the most successful touring and recording acts of the 20th century with a career from the late 1960s into the early 1980s but they also producted a cultural impact that approached the Beatles. The members of the group brought their performing histories along with them, Crosby with the Byrds, Nash with the Hollies, and Stills with Buffalo Springfield. However, the trio moved beyond their musical heritages, creating a unique vocal blend and material that ranged from acoustic folk to melodic pop to hard rock. CSN's debut album, released in 1969, proved an immediate hit. The group's first tour included the Woodstock festival and incorporated Neil Young, another Buffalo Springfield veteran. The first CSNY album, "Deja Vu" hit the top of the sales charts 1970, only to be followed by an acrimonious split.
