Singer and sometime actor Marvin Lee Aday adopted the name Meat Loaf early in his performing career. After appearing in an off-Broadway production, Meat Loaf acted in pianist Jim Steinman's musical, "More Than You Deserve." He then took a part in the1975 cult film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Meat Loaf reteamed with Steinman for a tour with the National Lampoon road show and Steinman started to compose a musical update of Peter Pan. Many of those compositions ultimately found a home in 1977's "Bat Out of Hell." That album turned Meat Loaf a star and became one of the bestselling LPs of the decade. The melodramatic teen rock opera generated three Top 40 singles: "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," and "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth." Steinman's bombastic epic made a perfect fit with Meat Loaf's style and a huge audience found the resulting product irresistable.
