Throughout the ages, the lion has often been used in art as a symbolical guardian of one thing or another. This lion was originally created in order to watch over the memory of a famous man: the Austrian field marshal and diplomat Karl Philip Schwarzenberg (1771-1820). However, the memorial of which the lion was to have formed part was never realised.
This 3D printable model was digitised in collaboration between Scan the World and The Thorvaldsensmuseum. The sculpture was scanned in the museum and has been shared with their permission. The model can be downloaded and 3D printed from Scan the World.
