In the 1800s the Bank of England asked printmakers to submit banknote designs which were difficult to imitate, to prevent forgeries. This print was submitted by printing partners Applegath & Cowper as an 'inimitable note.' This design is primarily red and blue with black lettering. Britannia and a caduceus appear in side panels, and the blue sum block reads 'One Pound' and is surrounded by a circular design.
