WORKING WITHOUT EMPLOYMENT
“My name is Felista and I live in Machakos town. As a person living with disability, I felt disadvantaged for not being able to access the same employment opportunities as other people. However, stitching under the Carakana project has changed this for me and the other members of our group. After being trained on how to stitch, I embarked on stitching this red flower. I completed it within three months and in the process realized there are many ways to earn a living and one does not have to be limited to formal employment. With my payment, I expanded my business and became more creative with other work involving fabric. Words can’t express my gratitude. I am very grateful to Carakana.”
