The Rose Fish can reach a length of 1 meter, weigh 15 kilograms and live to an age over 60 years. It occurs throughout the entire North Atlantic. The Rose Fish is mainly found at depths between 100 and 500 meters and primarily feeds on shrimp and other swimming crustaceans as well as Herring, Poor Cod and Capelin. Each year, about 50,000 tons of Rose Fish are caught, leading environmentalists to raise an alarm that Rose Fish populations are heavily overfished.
