This single ply, stitched corset with elevated back has a short waist with deeply drawn front. It fastens there with a mechanical closure and in the back with patent lacing. Cotton ribbons have been stitched on as stay casings. The back is fully rigid at the shoulders. On the sides quilted straps lead forward and around the shoulder, and cross in the back again before affixing in the front to enforce straight posture. Machine lace and double-set, mint coloured silk ribbon adorns the front edge of the corset. The 1903 Wertheim department store catalogue offered a similar orthopaedic or “Posture holding corset for ladies”.
