Junak is a fishing tool, which is classified by the method of installation, into a junak installed on the sea floor, a floating junak, and a standing junak. It consists of a single piece of thick, long rope tied with a number of thin strings with hooks attached to the end. It is installed horizontally or vertically to float on the water current, or fixed at a specific location with an anchor or a rock. Similar to junak, there is another trap called yeongseung, which is installed on an underwater rock despite being similar in shape and structure. Though a junak has several weak points, it also has some advantages that contributed to its importance in the fishing industry. For example, it requires no human attention during the fishing process, and captures a large quantity of fish in a single operation.
