The Regency TR-1 was the world's first commercial transistor radio. It was equipped with 4 germanium bipolar transistors instead of tubes, but could not achieve the sound quality of tube radios. The radio went on sale in time for Christmas 1954 and was available in a range of colors. The red triangles on the frequency dials indicate the CONELRAD frequencies, on which the US population would be warned in the event of a nuclear war.
