Madrid, Spain

Pistols were used in naval combat along with cannons and other weapons. This particular one, made in 1802, has a percussion lock mechanism (a firing mechanism used in firearms between the 17th and 19th centuries), a brass pan, and a sight-free barrel. It bears the stamp of the Spanish Royal Navy: an anchor flanked with the initials R and A (for "Real Armada").
