Release of Ortega Lara

This diorama depicts the Mondragon factory, which manufactured mechanical parts, and the hideout that the terrorist organization ETA built beneath it. The group held prison officer José Antonio Ortega Lara captive there for 532 days. It was the longest abduction ETA ever undertook. The diorama details the moment when Civil Guard forces entered the building on July 1, 1997, following an exhaustive investigation. The ETA member Bolinaga was present but refused to offer any information, so they had great difficulty locating the mechanism to access the hideout. Time was running out—not just for legal reasons, but for the very survival of the hostage. They eventually managed to gain access to the room where he was being held and released him.
