Relief dedicated to goddess Artemis

In the port of Ephesus in eastern Greece, the goddess Artemis was worshipped. Her temple was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The cult statue of the Ephesian Artemis is quite different from most statues of gods, which are generally realsistic. It looks like a plank, and it is hung all around with the testicles of bulls sacrificed to Artemis. On this votive relief, Artemis is flanked by two does. The inscription states that one Menodotos has offered this relief to the goddess.
