"Relieve" is a work composed of several of the elements found in the focus of the concrete art proposals of the 1940s: the rigid support, the flat colored background, the cut and painted wooden shapes assembled on the background - halfway between coplanar and relief - and the incorporation of a partially painted glass plate attached with screws to the support. The inclusion of certain materials was not only aimed at material-formal innovation, but also proposed an inquiry into visual perception and the surrounding space. Both issues were central to Gregorio Vardánega's artistic production, and found various ways to manifest themselves throughout his work.
