Benedetto Antelami (about 1150 - 1230) was one of the
protagonists of Romanesque sculpture in Northern Italy. The relief with the
procession of the Magi, done by one of his followers, summoned to work in the
church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Milan, is a wonderful example of Antelami’s
sculpture. The fragment, dating back to the decades around 1200 A.D. and found
in 1943 under a pillar in Milan cathedral, shows elegant forms, admirable
rendering of details and free expressiveness in the characters
