The respective drawings were sent from Rome to the king on the 23rd January 1745, by the ambassador Manuel Pereira de Sampaio. The execution of all eight reliquaries was initially commissioned to Carlo Guarnieri (1710-1774?); however, on an unknown date after May 1748, the production of four of them (missing today) was entrusted to Giuseppe Gagliardi. The four surviving reliquaries are two pairs of different morphology and composition: a pair conceived “ad urna” and the other pair “ad tempio”.
