Irun, Spain

Clock comprising two elements: a wooden case and a face with metal mechanism. The case is circular with mouldings. Access to the mechanism is at the bottom. There is a glass door with a metal hinge. The face is in plate iron, beige in colour with standard (Arabic) numerals painted in black, and the maker’s name, Rubio, Pamplona. The metal hands are unornamented.

The Industrial Revolution brought fundamental changes not only in the economy, but also in society and in ways of life. Ever more developed technology required greater precision in timekeeping, finally leading to the widespread introduction of concepts such as opening hours and punctuality.

This clock comes from the telegraph office in Alsasua / Altsasu and forms part of the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa’s F. Morcillo collection.
