REMAKE

Forming a section of the overarching work 'MAKE', 'Remake' is a durational work in which performers are engaged in a continuous process of framing themselves, their audience, and their environment with brightly coloured three-metre long poles. The sculptural scenarios constructed recall not only seminal works of Minimal Art such as Dan Flavin’s fluorescent light installations, but also cultural life beyond the white cube. 'Remake' is performed for up to six hours at a time and has toured to Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, and Greenwich Peninsula.

Encompassing visual art, dance and performance, Florence Peake's works combine drawing, painting and sculpture materials with found, appropriated and fabricated objects, placing each into relationship with the moving body. Her recent projects have been concerned with the often-hidden processes of art production - interacting with, reimagining and reframing the procedures, actions and gestures involved in making and packaging an artwork. Site-specificity and humour are key to the artist's practice, with work's often incorporating large-scale objects that are repositioned or re-formed in relation to a live audience.

Florence Peake (b. 1973, London) is an artist living and working in London. She received her MA in Contemporary Performance Making from Brunel University, London. Selected commissions and presentations include SPACE, London, 2016; Serpentine Gallery, London (Offsite), 2016; NoTTDance Festival, Nottingham, 2015; Modern Art Oxford, 2015; Hayward Gallery, London, 2014; BALTIC, Gateshead, 2013; Tintype, London 2013; Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield, 2012; Baltic 39, Newcastle, 2012; Lanchester Gallery Projects, Coventry, 2012; National Portrait Gallery, London, 2010. As a performer, Peake works with filmmakers, artists and choreographers, including Joe Moran, Gaby Agis, Serena Korda, Nicola Conibere and Gary Stevens, and tours with Station House Opera’s Roadmetal and Sweetbread. She was awarded the Jerwood Choreographic Research Award in 2016.
