The theodolite is a measuring instrument that is fundamental for mapping the Earth’s surface. It makes it possible to measure angles and directions with great precision and is characterised by its two telescopes. The lower one is used to control the alignment, while the upper telescope is pointed in turn at the objects of which one is measuring the angle of separation.
