After independence, the dress of New Granada was influenced by the fashion of Paris and England, showing the ever-growing detachment from colonial regime and adopting a Romanticism style from Europe.

Woman from the elite between 1820 –1830 had no desire to dress in a similar fashion to Spanish woman, explaining the adoption of styles from England and Paris, with wider skirt and prominent waistlines, also from the popularization of the balloon sleeves.

These descriptions fit with replica of the dress worn by Manuela Saenz, as she was an active participant in the independence movement even for the daughter of a Spanish military commander. Her dress reflects the fashion of non-Spanish European influence through the silhouette with a more feminine emphasis on the shape of the waist and balloon sleeves, her skirt was also wider, and the front of her dress was adorned with some simple golden threat decorations and the neckline follows the empire style of dresses from England.
