Constant Troyon19th century

The Walters Art Museum

The Walters Art Museum
Baltimore, United States

A sense of serenity permeates this scene of cattle at rest during a sunny day on the Normandy coast.

Troyon was born in Sèvres, France, home of the porcelain factory. He traveled the country as an artists for as long as his finances lasted, then would return home to work as a decorator and painter at the factory. He was associated and studied under artitsts who worked in the Barbizon style. He began to flourish as an artist when he found his area of expertise, in animals.
