Arts & Crafts Museum Hangzhou
Hangzhou, China

This is a pair of ornamental scissors given its small size and cute form. It is made of silver and cannot be opened. The cloisonné decoration on the finger bows form two curled dragons, with the two heads resting near the nail which serves as the “firing ball” in this traditional Chinese pattern of “Two Dragons Playing with One Ball”. In exact symmetry, the meticulously-crafted bodies of dragons are in sapphire while the dragon heads, claws and flames are lake blue. The other side of the scissors is unadorned.
