In 1994 the club sent a team to the UK World Lifesaving Championships. It was the furthest any team from the club had ever travelled and it said worlds about the way that Surf Lifesaving, which started nearly 90
years earlier on Bondi Beach, had reached around the planet. The cities Empire Pool was the venue for the championships still water events. The second leg of the competition was in Newquay in Cornwall a week later.
Despite the competitor's blue lips and hypothermia, the location offered good and testing conditions, which all members raced well.
