Research project: Panel painting
In the context of a research project, approx. 250 panel paintings from the 13th to the 15th century are currently being examined. Most of these paintings are of a religious nature: altarpieces, house and relic altars, etc. The study examines the role these paintings played in the religious life as well as the technical processes used by the artists, in order to gain potential insights into the working methods and conditions in the artists’ workshops at that time.
