Only 20 percent of those who succeeded in getting out of the USSR with the Anders’ Army chose to be repatriated to Poland. Making the decision to remain an expatriate was hardly the choice for an easier, better life. The situation deteriorated further when, in July 1945, recognition of the Polish government in London was revoked and Polish settlements lost the formal and financial grounds on which they operated.
