This painting comes from a panel on the altarpiece at the Monastery de la Resurrección de las Canonesas del Santo Sepulcro in Zaragoza. The scene is inspired by the Gospel of Saint Mark and the Resurrection Apocrypha. The central figure of Christ with the Resurrection Labarum in his hand and the sepulchre creates a symmetrical, inverted T-shaped scene. This panel would have been at the top in the middle of the altarpiece. Painter Jaime Serra was the exponent of the Italo-Gothic style in Catalonia, together with his brothers Pedro, Francisco, and Juan, who were also painters.
