The Finnish painter was born in 1860 and has lived in several countries during his career. Known for being a masterful portraitist, Hall began his artistic studies at the age of 15 in Stockholm, where his parents moved to. After graduating in 1891, he moved to Paris and studied under great names of local painting, such as Jean-Paul Laurens, Raphael Collin and Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant. Although a painter of genres too, it was in portrait that Hall showed his talents and was recognized, having his works exhibited in great halls of the French city and in the gallery of Georges Petit. In the early twentieth century, he moved to New York by the invitation of businessman William Kissam Vanderbilt to portray his family and also the elite of the North-American city. After that, in 1915, Hall moved to his last city, Mar del Plata, in Argentina, where he died almost 30 years later, in 1942, at the age of 82.
