About the Work: An openly gay artist, Nahum Zenil uses his own image to explore ideas of Mexican male identity, belonging and intimate relationships. Combining his likeness with traditional Mexican icons and symbols, he questions the idea of the macho male and his relationship to Mexican culture. In Wedding Portrait, every member of the wedding party has Zenil’s face, regardless of age, gender or familial status.
