Fernández Cruzado was ahead of the other painters in the rest of Spain in his choice of themes and the intensification of the colours used in the Romantic costumbrismo style. The Museum of Cádiz does not hold any costumbrista style painting; however, it does have several portraits which possess a certain fluidity in their execution and use of colour.
