Retrato de Luis XIV

Hyacinthe RigaudXVIII century

Catedral de Mallorca

Catedral de Mallorca
Palma, Spain

This piece is part of the Séguier family legacy. Countess Séguier, widow of Count Séguier—an important military officer, diplomat, and patron of art and culture—donated a large collection of artistic objects and curiosities from the places they had visited to the Museum, as well as treasures from her family estate.

The king is portrayed before the throne in his coronation robes. He is depicted in an authoritative and majestic pose.

This work is considered a replica of the royal portrait painted by Rigaud and commissioned by Pierre Séguier, Chancellor to Louis XIV and ancestor of the Counts of Séguier. The painting was donated to the Museum along with the rest of the Séguier legacy.
