Rev. Jerzy Popiełuszko, the legendary chaplain of Solidarity, was abducted and brutally murdered by the communist police officers in October 1984. It was not until 1988 when the authorities returned to the Church the personal belongings of rev. Popiełuszko he had on him at the time of the murder.
