This painting depicts Largo do Paço (Rio de Janeiro) on a feast day, with trained troops and the presence of noble, ecclesiastical and military personalities, as well as locals. On the left, in front of the main façade of the former Palace of the Vice-Kings, later, Paço Imperial, the Regiment; in front of the side façade, the new Regiment of Rio shows its weapons. In the background, in front of the Convento do Carmo, the Church of Antiga Sé and the Church of Ordem 3ª do Carmo, aligns the Moura Regiment, whose name went to the square where his barracks was. On the right, in front of Arco do Teles, the second Militia Regiment of Santa Rita. In the foreground, the Fountain of Mestre Valentim, and with its back to the sea, the Artillery Regiment of Rio and the guard of the Viceroy.
