This excellent specimen of Rhamphorhychus was unearthed in the Solnhofen Formation in Germany. This formation is know for the immaculate preservation of the delicate bones of many pterosaur species. The long tail acted like a rudder, helping the Rhamphorhyncus direct its movements while airborne.
