This ribbed scabbard is coated with lacquer of gold nashiji (pear skin pattern). On the lacquer finish, the Tachibana family crest and arabesque pattern are depicted in gold and silver with sprinkled powder. It seems to be virtually impossible to apply such a delicate design on the groove-lined base.
The Gionmamori crest of the Tachibana family was slightly altered with time which depended on the preferences of the lord of that time. The crest here on the scabbard was seen at the time of the 2nd lord and is a good example that the family crest had begun to be modified in such a sophisticated design.
