Rice straw is the by-product of rice cultivation, abundant in Asia where rice is the staple food. It is used to feed animals, for roof thatching, mattress stuffing, packing, and as fuel. It is soft and light, so easy to manipulate. Though It is not very durable, the availability makes it a popular material; and often made into hats, rain cape and footwear.
