Dr. Lewis R. Koller (left), Donald A. Cusano and Dr. Frank J Studer demonstrate the transparency of the face of a new television picture tube developed in the General Electric Research Laboratory. Tubes now used are opaque because they are coated with a powder which forms the picture. Appearing white or gray, this is the darkest that any shadows can be. With the new tubes, it is foreseen, clearer pictures may be possible, because dark areas can appear as black as the dark interior of the tube when installed in a set.
