Young children find much to like about riding toys. Little wagons, carts, scooters, and trikes that toddlers can power on their own give them the first bit of autonomy from their parents. In addition, there is a big thrill in the speed, repetitive motion, rocking, or lulling of ride-ons; ride-on toys fuel the imagination: kids pretend they are rounding the curve of the racetrack, escaping from the green ogre, riding to the save the fair damsel, or conquering the known world. Pushing some of these toys aids the youngest of children in learning to walk. For older children, mastering these outdoor toys develops coordination, balance, and poise. What's not to like?
