This bronze ring is believed to have been excavated in the rich necropolis of Marlik Tepe, to the south of the Caspian Sea. It is a product of the Amlash culture from the mountainous northern region of what is now Iran, which flourished from the 9th to the 7th century BC. The use of bronze is characteristic of the Amlash culture, as is the use of animal decorative motifs.
