For this work, Akino had planned to paint a herd of water buffaloes crossing the Krishna River, but when she went on her research trip, there was unprecedented flooding due to heavy rain, forcing her to cancel her trip. She then reluctantly painted the flooding of the Daya River to the north instead, which also flows into the Bay of Bengal. The water, clouds and sky seem to almost melt into one another, and the buffaloes bravely make their way across the swollen river. This is a scene that could never be seen in Japan, and Akino expresses it through the bright colors of natural mineral pigments.
