Road in Häme is the result of sketches that Werner Holmberg made around Tampere in northern Häme. In the painting, the viewpoint is that of the passengers in the wagon. Nature and the sensation of a sweltering day seem to surround the viewer, who is thus taken on a trip down a 19th-century country road in a postal wagon. Despite the apparently fleeting quality of the moment and a sense of authenticity, the landscape is a combination of several sketches and the result of careful, time-consuming finishing work.
