This collaboration with Spanish artist Octavi Serra was initially produced for Nuart in 2018. Created in 2020 as a response to the first lockdown, the work was intended to bring a bit of joy and fun to public space at a time of restricted movement. Various crossing in the eastern and central part of Stavanger saw the words "The road is lava" added to them with black spray paint.

Octavi Serra is an artist, designer and photographer from Barcelona. His practice is based on carrying out interventions in public spaces that challenge the viewers' perception of reality and overarching logic systems. Most of his works are based on visual metaphors transmitted through everyday physical objects.

Martyn Reed is a British artist, writer, independent researcher, curator and exhibition organizer based in Stavanger, Norway. He is the founder and artistic director of the Nuart Festivals and network. Much of Reed's work and the platforms he devises are international collaborative events that revolve around promoting art as part of everyday life using counter-cultural strategies, values and thinking.
