Zakanitch turns the curvilinear Rococo style into a rapturous fireworks show. Part of the joy of A Garden or Ordinary Miracles is spending time to look at all the smaller, fanciful drawings around the central element—the painted vase of flowers: “I started drawing on them because there were all these open spaces on the sides, and I didn’t want to just leave them there. I left the color flat, so I drew. I had fun making sounds with birds and things.” Even the white rabbit has something to say.
