"I used an original design for eight of the blocks in this quilt and the traditional Mariner’s Compass for the center block and borders. There were four things which I felt were unusual at the time the quilt was made: the original block design; the use of partial compasses; the use of sashing areas to create the look of a Medallion style; and the experimentation with large patterned cloth and the fish batik fabric. In Rococo Islands, I try to capture the feeling of ocean, sea birds, islands, and sand bars."
