This denarius coined in the eastern part of the Roman Empire from 32 to 31 BCE promotes the Ninth Legion established by the triumvir Mark Antony. The coin bears images of a warship, an aquila (legionary eagle) and standards of the cohorts. It is unlikely that it refers to the Legio IX that was later deployed in Spain. This small coin with a diameter of only 14 mm is thick and heavy, typical of denari.
