The rhombus or bull roarer is a wooden panel engraved with geometric designs and sometimes decorated with paint, featuring a hole on one end with a string tied to it. The string is used to make the panel rotate on its axis, which produces a vibrating sound that the Aboriginal people of Australia interpret as the voice of the Ancestral Beings. This instrument was used in sacred ceremonies and reserved exclusively for initiated men.
