Rome Coat of Arms

The frieze was painted in 1872 by the decorator Gaetano Lodi, who then held the position of "honorary ornament painter of the Royal House". The Savoy family commissioned it to celebrate the unification of Italy and had the emblems of forty-six of the main towns of the peninsula painted.
