Black and white photograph of anti-Springbok tour protesters dressed as clowns and rabbits. Protesters are wearing face paint and holding baguettes. One protester dressed as a rabbit is wearing a sign reading "Ron don roots rabbits".
Notes: Notes provided by John Mercer June-July 2021: The protest clowns and rabbits on route to their chosen position and roles in the planned event. NB: The stripey clowns is severely assaulted, batoned and bashed during the street battle on Onslow Rd by officers from the Red Squad. The clowns, the rabbits and the bumblebee were a group of eight protestors that didn't want to engage in physical protest or violence but drew on a long NZ tradition of humour and satire to contribute to the anti Tour protest. They caught many a photographer's eye/lense. They, like me, ended up in Onslow Rd and proceeded to mock and satirise police, police formations and police activities.
