Darjeeling Himalayan Railway’s cute little Rongtong station is situated between a tea garden and the Mahananda forest. Between Rongton and Chunbati is the first Z reverse, which is unique to Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. Z reverses are another engineering feat that are imagined at places where loops were impossible due to the terrain. Here the train reverses to a gradual gradient and then ascends forward to a climb a steeper hill. A Z-shaped track was laid for the purpose.
