Roof Tiles

Various types of roof tiles have been discovered at Yongjangseong Fortress in Jindo, including convex end tiles (sumaksae) with lotus patterns and concave end tiles (ammaksae) with arabesque (dangcho) patterns. These tiles appear to have been modeled after Goryeo roof tiles that have been found at sites like Manwoldae Palace in Gaegyeong (present-day Kaesong, North Korea). Similar roof tiles have also been identified at the site of Beophwasa Temple in Wando, indicating the extent of the Sambyeolcho army’s influence in the region.
