Merrill says: "Meet Rosa, an ICU nurse and healthcare hero at the Royal London Hospital. Rosa is now united with her portrait that traveled 3,500+ miles to reach her.
Rosa worked in Intensive Care for five years and left in January of 2020 to be a specialist nurse in Crohn's Disease. In less than two months of being in her new job, she was called back to Critical Care and has been there since. Her ICU has had many, many patients with COVID. They went from 44 beds of non-COVID to 60 all COVID. It was terrifying for her. The nurses didn't know the disease and were scared of getting it and passing it to their families. They were seeing cases of young people, some hospital workers, too. Rosa showered and washed her hair every day after work and then again when she got home from being in public transport.
Rosa said she loves intensive care nursing and loves her team and colleagues. They have all come together and it has been quite special. She will miss them so much when she leaves. Her portrait will help her to always remember them and this time.”
