Carmen Elena Trigueros (b. 1963) is a Salvadoran visual artist. In 2000, she founded the ADOBE Group, to which artist Walterio Iraheta also belongs. Throughout her career in painting, she has also explored the use of textiles and embroidery. Her work commonly addresses gender issues by focusing on the role of women in society and domestic spaces, while attempting to capture its changes in recent decades. “Rosa Poderosa en La Habana” (“Powerful Rosa in Havana”), part of a series the artist completed following a trip to Cuba, depicts a mature woman with a confident attitude, riding a motorcycle alone and leaving a trail of fumes behind her. While Trigueros characterizes Rosa with stereotypical female elements (like pink high heels and a tight skirt) her selection of contrasting colors, such as blue and grey, challenges any reductionism; on the contrary, it reinforces the autonomy of an ordinary, yet powerful, woman.
